BURGHOUND 2009
2007 Volnay “Taillepieds”: A wonderfully elegant nose that features ripe red berry fruit and violet notes that complements to perfection the classy, refined, pure and reserved middle weight flavors that seem to be extracted from liquid stone, all wrapped in a gorgeously long finish that is less austere than is typical for Taillepieds. Terrific though patience required. 92/2017+
2007 Volnay “Clos des Chênes”: Perfect integration of the of the oak treatment adds to the depth of the expressive, ripe, complex and densely fruited nose that offers up notes of red and blue pinot fruit as well as perfumed floral aromas that slide gracefully into rich, full and relatively powerful medium plus weight flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration with ample sap that really coats the palate and buffers the firm tannins on the wonderfully intense finish. I quite like this. 92/2019+
2007 Volnay “Les Caillerets – Ancienne Cuvée Carnot”: Somewhat curiously, this possesses at once the most elegant, the ripest yet also the coolest nose among these three examples from Volnay with its lightly spiced black fruit and rose petal and violet nose that merges seamlessly with the rich, full, serious, firm yet utterly refined and intensely mineral suffused flavors that are focused, linear and hugely long. This is a striking wine and as good as the Taillepieds and Clos des Chênes are, this has another dimension of overall depth. Built to age and it will absolutely require it. 93/2019+
